YES! Angela Bassett Joins ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’

Great news! Oh, and if you missed it, Evan Peters, Wes Bentley, and ChloĆ« Sevigny will also return. For those who were not thrilled by the announcement about Lady Gaga appearing in American Horror Story Season 5, AKA American Horror Story Hotel, don’t panic. This is an ensemble cast, and she will not be replacing Jessica Lange as the lead. I doubt they’d give her a meatier role than, say, Kathy Bates. We’re not huge fans, but we’re also willing to give Gaga a fair chance. Meanwhile, keep on hoping that Lily Rabe, who we really missed last season (though getting to see her play Sister Mary Eunice again in the episode “Orphans” was almost worth her only being in one episode) will sign on to return! Also, we kind of miss Zach Quinto…

‘American Horror Story’: Gabourey Sidibe talks Queenie’s future on ‘Coven’ and doing a sitcom with Kathy Bates

Even though Gabourey Sidibe can’t say one way or another for sure, she throws out enough implications for us to be pretty sure Queenie’s not dead (unless Ryan Murphy coached her with some of her answers and purposely scripted them to misdirect us, but we doubt it). Read on for more… and we’d TOTALLY watch the hell out of that sitcom, too!

‘American Horror Story’: Ryan Murphy on the latest ‘Coven’ and what’s next for Madame LaLaurie — EXCLUSIVE

“Beautiful.”

Not thrilled we won’t have a new American Horror Story Coven episode for two goddamned weeks (one week is already too long to have to wait), though hopefully I can get caught up on the episode write-ups and then hit the ground running, since this plot –multiple plots, actually– is moving along quite speedily. But check this Entertainment Weekly Exclusive interview with Ryan Murphy out to see what’s ahead, and since we have a subscription, we can’t WAIT to see the AHSC cover story show up in the mail on Friday!

‘American Horror Story’: Ryan Murphy talks Stevie Nicks’ guest spot and the latest ‘Coven’ — EXCLUSIVE

No Kathy Bates this week? Oh well, Misty Day (and Madison) were pretty entertaining… and there were some great reveals. More coming soon!

‘American Horror Story:’ Ryan Murphy on the latest ‘Coven,’ minotaur sex and next week’s introduction of…zombies! — EXCLUSIVE

EW: What can you say about next weekā€™s episode?
Murphy:
Episode four is called ā€œFearful Pranks Ensue.ā€ Kathy Bates is very confused about Halloween and when she finds out its Halloween she wants to go out and burn a bonfire in the front yard to keep the evil spirits away. Weā€™re doing a real Marie Laveau/white zombie tribute. I recently watched again that movie I Walked with a Zombie. I always loved that movie and the voodoo zombies are very different from The Walking Dead zombies. Itā€™s a very gripping two-parter. Ā  -From the EW.com piece

There’s old-school Romero zombies, and then there’s the original REALLY old-school voodoo zombies. We cannot freaking WAIT! Stay tuned for more! Oh, and those of us who read the Ryan Murphy post-episode interviews have learned the hard way that he should give his OWN spoiler alerts for upcoming episodes; he told us last week (maybe earlier) that Fiona was going to kill one of the students whose powers exceeded hers. As soon as she started being friendly to Madison, we–and probably everyone else who read it–knew. Oh well, it was still an amazing episode. Plus, the American Horror Story Halloween episode NEVER fails to blow us away and put us in the Halloween spirit (even if we thought our spirit couldn’t get any more enthusiastic). And wow, tonight’s episode was SICK! I mean, really sick. I’m glad I skipped the Jiffy Pop snack while watching…

DO NOT Miss This New American Horror Story Coven Trailer! LaLaurie Horrors VS. Marie Leveau – IT’S ON!

We were wondering (and dreading) when the American Horror Story Coven teasers (besides ‘Pins and Needles’, one of the earliest) would show or even hint at the horrors Delphine La Laurie (Kathy Bates) was capable of. We also wanted to see more of Angela Basset as Marie Leveau. Here in this “Mythology” trailer, we get both…

It also looks like Lily Rabe‘s character might not make it past the pilot, witch which would explain why her name is not on any of the posters (color us seriously bummed).

The spot starts off with these shots of Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange), in an especially beautiful and striking shot:

"There's a storm coming..."

“There’s a storm coming…”

Then LaLaurieĀ  entering her personally-created chamber of horrors (and yes, that’s blood smeared on her face in the promo; slave’s blood as a beauty cream), holding a candle and looking full of rapture…

Which is much more disturbing that an evil look, when you get glimpses of what sights have her so joyous…

Screen shot 2013-10-06 at 3.25.41 AM

Pretty sure which LaLaurie victim this is by looking at the claw-like hand, but we’re not comfortable describing that particular event/torture

Pretty sure that's her doctor husband beside her, who helped out when it came to more technical things like breaking and re-forming the limbs of her victims into grotesque shapes, and you know what, that's enough speculation on that subject for now

There’s some shots of ugly fundamentalist, hateful religious nuts that wouldn’t be out-of-place in the True Blood opening credit sequence. We also see Leveau looking ready to unleash her wrath, with Angela Basset looking beautiful and seething:

Followed by an awesome closing shot (that just puts the icing on the fucking bad-ass cake*) of a swamp alligator snapping its jaws around what looks like the entire upper half of a man and dragging him speedily into the water.

He probably deserved it.

BAM! TITLE CARDS! Hot Damn! Less than a week till the premiere, “Bitchcraft”, On October 9th! Who else gets a big adrenaline surge just thinking about that?Ā  Oh YES!

KICK SOME ASS, MARIE!

KICK SOME ASS, MARIE!

Here’s the PR synopsis/pitch again for American Horror Story Coven from FX:

CovenĀ tells the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. Over 300 years have passed since the turbulent days of the Salem witch trials and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe (Farmiga), who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona (Lange), the long-absent Supreme, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.

So, looks like it must be The Season of the Witch for American Horror Story this year, huh? (See what we did ther–Ow! Hey, who threw that?)

*It took SERIOUS self-restraint to only use the word ‘fuck’ once in this piece. Oops, that’s twice, guess we bumped this to an R-rating now. Hell!

‘American Horror Story’: See Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett in ‘Coven,’ plus plot details — EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS

Well,Ms. Horror Boom was sick last Friday the 13th, witch which can be the only explanation for missing this item a week ago (too sick to go see Insidious Chapter 2 opening night/weekend = too sick to notice a HUGE story like this on American Horror Story Coven, witch which we’ve been deliberately combing the internet for–and still are). Regardless, here are all the plot details thus far. Let’s hope Marie Leveau kicks LaLaurie’s evil ass back to hell where her soul deserves to burn for all eternity. Creator Ryan Murphy embellished the real-life horror story with the blood-as-wrinkle-cream idea (damn!) but if you have the stomach to read (or have already read) about what Delphine LaLaurie‘s real-life crimes entailed, you’ll be cheering on Angela Bassett as Leveau before she even shows up. Actually, we were already cheering for her anyway, she looks so damn cool. The costumes and period detail are gorgeous so far– and that’s just the icing on the cake!

Better yet, an official synopsis has been released, and it’s a fucking doozy… wrap your mind around how awesome THIS will be!

You’re goddamned right she will! It’s also being called a Voodoo VS. Witchcraft showdown.
