This is AWESOME news. We can’t wait to see what happens. Pepper, if you’ll recall, was framed… who really drowned that baby and cut off its ears?

In the interest of full disclosure, we were not present at the SDCC Comic Con AHS Freak Show Panel, nor were we present at Comic Con 2014, mainly for lack of finances at the time to do any such thing. However, there was plenty of coverage out there, and we spent a lot of time online culling the most interesting new information (and of course, some speculation from us).
This was the first year AHS had a presence at SDCC, and there wasn’t as much new information as we’d hoped. Most of the “panel re-caps” were kind of sparse. Also unfortunate: the “sneak peek” at Freak Show that Ryan Murphy had promised for the panel was nowhere to be found;* plus, the cast wasn’t allowed to divulge much about the characters, or the storylines …but we got what fresh info we could!
1. Producer Tim Minear was at the panel (a very good sign). “I can tell you this, which is not much: It’s the best season so far,” he said. “It’s not like the first three seasons.” He also revealed he recently saw a daily that he could only compare to a scene from Zodiac — but with sherbet.
2. John Carroll Lynch is officially on board. Lynch is usually cast as big loveable guys (Fargo), or big frightening guys (Zodiac).
3.. Lynch will be playing a “big bad”. Tim Minear promised his character “will scare the shit out of you”. (an unofficial leaked call sheet said he was playing a “twisted clown”, so we’re guessing he’s playing the Clown Killer). Minear also said his character will be a scarier creation than Bloody Face, Rubber Man, and The Minotaur (who really didn’t stick around long enough to be scary, or a threat, in Coven, but hey).
4. Here’s the list of names of characters, and there’s some great ones in there:
Emma Roberts is playing “Maggie”
Sarah Paulson is playing “Bette and Dot Tattler” (conjoined twins)
Kathy Bates is playing “Effil Darling”
Chiklis is playing “Wendell Del Tolito”
Angela Bassett is playing “Desiree Dupre”
Evan Peters is playing “Jimmy Darling”
Jessica Lange is playing “Elsa Mars”
5. Peters’ character (Jimmy Darling) is the son of Chiklis’ character, while Bassett is playing Chiklis’ wife and Bates is playing his ex-wife. Got all that?
6. The season premiere already sounds pretty goddamned scary. Here’s what Kathy Bates had to say: “After my first scene last week — and this is a terrible confession to make — I couldn’t sleep until six in the morning, and then I slept for 30 hours …and that was without drugs, I swear to God!” Jesus. Bates then added, “I think [Ryan Murphy] scares the shit out of me.”
7. They’re going to have an especially large production team this year. For instance, Sarah Paulson said of the effects for her two-headed character: “There are about 22 people working on every single shot that I do.”
8. Speaking of Bette and Dotte, even Sarah Paulson’s solid acting talents were challenged. “How it will all come together I do not know, but it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I can’t just shoot all of Bette, then all of Dot. I feel like Sybil. I should call Sally Field and get some tips,” she said.
9. Evan Peters cut his hair (either that, or he’ll be wearing a wig). Also, gorgeous Angela Bassett still seems to be aging in reverse (photo credit : Zimbio.com):
10. This last one was revealed before the SDCC panel, but it’s worth repeating! Wes Bentley will be appearing in Freak Show’s two-part Halloween episode as a “tormentor” of Kathy Bates character, who is “hell-bent” on revenge. The two-parter is (for now) set to air on October 21st and 28th. (Source: TVline.com)

*Though the title of the panel was changed to reflect in the DSCC program that it was more about “A Look Back at Coven” than the upcoming season.
…and we hear there’s going to be all kinds of goodies when it comes to preview footage at SDCC 2014! Let’s hope someone sneaks a camera in, or that filming will be allowed–or,best case, that FX will have mercy on those of us that can’t afford a trip there and posts the whole thing to YouTube or EW.com (Ryan Murphy loves giving them exclusives) after the SDCC American Horror Story panel wraps up. Anyway, here’s the first official teaser; FX posted it yesterday.
WARNING: CREEPY CLOWN ALERT!
Is that Michael Chiklis behind the clown make-up there? Probably not, but gee, wonder why that “angel” doesn’t look so lively?
OH. That’s why. Eeeek…
Well, we went to the official site for Bloody Cuts and got a sinking feeling when THIS was the first video that greeted us:
So we looked and found the Bloody Cuts creators had posted this official announcement on their blog on Wednesday the 11th. We cut and pasted it; if anyone involved with Bloody Cuts isn’t comfortable with this, please drop Horror Boom a line (or even a comment; you were incredibly polite and thanked us when we did a piece on the brilliant short “Dead Man’s Lake”) and we’ll take it down and either post something else you prepared or simply a link to the blog. Anyway, here’s the announcement that gave us the blues:
Dear fans of Bloody Cuts,
Anthony, Jonny and Ben unfortunately have to announce with very heavy hearts that we will no longer be making Bloody Cuts episodes.
It’s been a tough decision, but for numerous reasons we felt that it was right for the series to end in its current format. Since the release of our eighth film “Don’t Move”, we’ve been working on other exciting projects that for one reason or another has taken us away from the Bloody Cuts series, and rather than see it die a slow death, we felt it better to end the series.
A lot of hard work has gone into getting the series it is today, but it’s the support of our viewers that has really kept it going, so we want to thank you all for following, watching, sharing and enjoying our films.
But as our YouTube channel is about to break the 1 million mark, we just wanted to remind you of some of the things Bloody Cuts has achieved:
- We released 9 short films (including “Dare”)
- We created one of the biggest short filmmaking competitions of its type with BCHorrorChallenge.com
- We entered over 30 festivals worldwide
- Well over 1.5 million views online
- Released and sold out an entire order of limited edition Blu-rays
- We won awards at Texas Frightmare, Bootleg and FilmSkillet film festivals
- And much, much more…
Making Bloody Cuts has literally changed our lives. It’s been (and we don’t use this word lightly) AMAZING.
However this isn’t the last project we’ll work on, or indeed the last thing much of the team will work on together. So as new projects and films develop, we’ll still be using this website, our Facebook Page, Twitter account and YouTube channel to let you all know what’s going on. Many of the Bloody Cuts team members are also working on projects of their own, which we’ll want to share with you.
For the next few weeks bloodycuts.co.uk will remain live in its current state hosting all of our legacy content, although there will be a slight reshuffle in the not too distant future so do expect the site to take on a new spectral form.
So THANK YOU, to each and every person that has ever given their time to support Bloody Cuts. It is, and always has been, something born of collaboration and great talent.
Not many filmmakers could’ve achieved what our team has with such limited budgets and in such a short amount of time; this is nothing but a true testament to the hard work and generosity of all involved.
So we hope that you’ll all join us in raising a glass to Bloody Cuts, and to the future too.
As that era ends, another one begins – we look forward to our next filmmaking adventure and hope you’ll be able to join that with us too.
Kindest regards,
Ben, Anthony and Jonny (and the rest of the Bloody Cuts team)

Here’s the link to read the above announcement directly on the Bloody Cuts blog, plus there’s many more links there (such as to their Facebook and Twitter pages).
The reason we were over on that page on the first place was to put the breathtaking short “Don’t Move” up as the Scariest Short Horror Film of the Week (actually, maybe the month), which we’ll still be doing. If you’re wondering what else Bloody Cuts UK-related we’ve posted since we began…
Here’s the piece on “Dead Man’s Lake” (a big BC fan favorite)
You may recall the short films that took some of the top honors in their “Who’s There” Short Horror Film Challenge… such as the Grand Prize Winner “Play Time” …and what we thought was the Scariest Horror Short of May 2014, “Lights Out”.
More news as it comes in, since the creators of Bloody Cuts are assuring everyone they have some amazing things in the works (and we believe them). Keep your eyeballs peeled here as we’ll be posting several more of their shorts (including ones related to the contest).
We’re especially going to miss the elaborately-crafted posters for each of their horror shorts, including this one for “Don’t Move”.
*Please note that our week was already ruined when we rolled out of bed Monday to be greeted first thing with the tragic news that Rik Mayall had suddenly passed, lest it sound like we’re trying to make anyone involved feel guilty; we were in a shitty mood before we read about Bloody Cuts ending. Plus, the DVD/Blu-ray of all the films did come out.
Just what we need after a week of rain here! Angela Basset has gotten to play Tina Turner AND Marie Leveau in her career – how fucking cool is THAT?
This is a re-blog from March, and here’s why: We saw this hit the newswires and flipped out, because we had figured last week that the copiously researched piece we wrote with our best guess on Kathy Bates casting as a ‘real life figure’ on S3 of American Horror Story Coven might have been off-base. Yay! We can’t believe we called it! I recommend a re-read of this article if you want to know more about her character …unless you have a weak stomach, or your nerves are not what they used to be, because this is extremely disturbing, graphic stuff. Learning new horrible historical facts can be upsetting, especially if it’s after dark, you’re alone, and you already are feeling a little …off. We’re still surprised (though still patting ourselves on the back) we were right, because Ryan Murphy is almost impossible to second-guess; almost all our predictions on how story-lines would wrap up on American Horror StoryAsylum were wildly off-base. More updates from the TCA announcement/presentation coming very soon!
So. Have you heard the very, very, VERY horrifying historical facts about her? Newspapers at the time called her, “a demon in the shape of a woman”. You know, the wealthy New Orléans socialite and notorious part-time torturer and murderess of slaves in her ‘employ’ in the 1830s who went by the name of Madame Delphine LaLaurie? No?
Are you SURE you want to?
Even if this ends up not happening, I doubt I’m alone in imagining…

We’ll go for it, but probably only if James Wan is heavily involved (well, I doubt they’ll hire someone like Uwe Boll or Michael Bay to REALLY fuck it up, but still, depends on if it’s someone we trust). Don’t miss the BRAND NEW trailer for The Conjuring at the end (though it has some featurette-like bits) with some fucking SCARY new footage (we’ll put it up very soon in a separate post, but if you cannot wait, it’s here too).

According to Variety, it looks like New Line is already eyeing a sequel to James Wan’s The Conjuring which should be a huge hit this weekend. New Line is currently exploring a potential franchise based around the Warrens’ investigations, which have involved cases that have already made their way to the big screen like The Amityville Horror and The Haunting in Connecticut.

It didn’t exactly set our world on fire, but they DID leave a few cliffhangers to address. I have faith in Chick Eglee as a show-runner. Also, ten episodes will hopefully make them tighten the ship a little… though when it comes to ‘being scared of things I never expected’, well, not quite as confident. Despite Eli Roth getting a little grandiose in his official statement here, we’ll watch it (unless they kill another pet cat)! We’re also going to re-think things if Nicotero-Berger aren’t involved with the practical effects…
It’s not official (yet, keep your fingers crossed) that Taissa Farmiga will return for Season 3 of American Horror Story (the word is she’s “officially in talks”, so we’ll keep you posted. Click the big red link below for the entire scoop from CraveOnline.com…
The lovely Ms. Lily Rabe, though, will be back! Now our fingers are crossed for Zach Quinto. Haven’t heard much yet, but he’s very, very close with Sarah Paulson (also officially signed), so maybe we’ll see them work together again. We know we wouldn’t be the only ones who’d definitely love to see Frances Conroy return, as well. Maybe this time she can play a really evil woman… whatever Ryan Murphy tries, we have faith he’ll make it work!
Hopefully this will encourage more studios to invest in (relatively) lower-budget scary movies! Considering the cost of the movie, Mama kicked some some ass in the box office (and the late showing we attended tonight was pretty lively, though I was, unintentionally, the loudest screamer).
