You don’t want to miss this interview with Dallas Roberts from Entertainably.com by Lesley Goldberg, unless you’re so pissed off at the shitty season finale that or the way Laurie Holden had the rug pulled out from under her that you want nothing to do with the show until you calm down. Actually, if so, you wouldn’t have bothered to read this far, so check it out below!
There’s also some great links (though because of a technical difficulty on someone’s part, the introduction is one big hyperlink to a blank Pinterest page, so ignore that link). A few points of interest in the Lesley Goldberg interview:
- After the original shoot (read about the gruesome version of the ending you didn’t see here), Roberts and Holden were called back to re-shoot (what we assume was the aired version) two months later.
- In fact, the scene was re-written a few times.
- He wonders if it was Mazarra’s idea to have Andrea killed off (though signs point to Kirkman making the call)
- First, it was a wrench that Milton left on the floor for Andrea to grab rather than the pair of pliers, and Milton was going to be shot in the stomach rather than stabbed
- He didn’t get a “death dinner” like Holden did, but he’s cool with it and understands (he ‘basically just existed in Woodbury’)
Maybe we’re reading too much into it, but we get the feeling that the interview was curious about the decision to re-shoot the scene… the day the episode started (re)shooting was the day she found out about Andrea’s death, Holden says. Okay, you might have noticed a pattern in several of the last few pieces covering the finale; we think it was a rotten (so to speak) way to treat a cast member. Kirkman has said (almost verbatim) that in Season 4 we’ll understand why it was important to the plot/character arcs to come to kill her off.* We’ve “Pressed” other blog entries and articles written by others (mainly fans of the comic, like we are) such as this one here that we strongly agree with. So unless we find out new information, we’re going to do our best to stop bitching about it repeatedly. Update: Whoop! we just found one on EW.com on ‘the ending you didn’t see’, and those are always worth “Pressing” on to you guys.
Clearly, this was before the re-shoot–his glasses are on and he looks more like he’d been dead for days, not minutes (good choice to make the transformation more subtle and scary)
*Then again, he also boasted the finale would give total closure to the prison arc; sorry, but we call bullshit on that. Ugh, that episode wasn’t finale material, maybe the only really interesting thing was Carl finally saying what he REALLY thinks to Rick, and seeing the way he carelessly tossed his father’s sheriff’s badge at his feet.
