‘The Walking Dead’ Star Seth Gilliam Reveals Where Father Gabriel Is Going (EW.com)

“It’s a show about people in extreme circumstances after a zombie apocalypse — I don’t think anybody’s got a real long shelf life, you know? So I am prepared every script that I get to see “…and then Gabriel gets his throat ripped out.” And I’d be fine with that, and if and when that happens will make it the most compelling or grisly or shocking or sad or joyful — if people hate the character — moment that it could possibly be. So I can’t really feel that chest of hope that “Hey, he’s alive in the thing so I’m going to be here until they close this show down for good.” It just doesn’t work that way.”

-Seth Gilliam (Father Gabriel) , in the EW.com interview with Dalton Ross

Check out this entertaining interview with Seth Gilliam (who you might remember from HBO’s “The Wire” and “Oz”, among many other TV gigs). We’re not sure what’s next on the agenda for Father Gabriel, but there’s no way it can be any good…

New Trailer For [REC]4 APOCALYPSE Finally Has Actual Footage From The Movie!

Bad news or good news first? How about getting that bad news out of the way…

So far, I can find no evidence of the equally amazing and nightmarish actor Javier Botet (as the Medieros Girl, AKA Nina Medieros, AKA the “Attic Monster”.  Yes,  we know that the monster was, um, how should I put this to avoid spoilers, sort of “written out” at the end of [REC]2. Interesting trivia: Botet originally (and reluctantly) told the film-makers he would have to take a pass and not participate in [REC] 2 due to health issues in connection with the location of the shoot, but the film-makers basically worked around that, and even moved the shooting location to one more comfortable for him …because let’s face it, no-one can replace Javier Botet in this role.  Anyway, though, he had a cameo in [REC]3, where it was revealed that anyone who is possessed by the virus appears as the Medieros girl in any reflective surface. This was with the lights on and it still made my hair stand on end.  I’d even settle for a cameo like that. However, this final installment in the series is still in production, so it still could happen (or they could be saving it for a reveal).

Ya THINK?

Good news: it looks like R4A will be released before the end of the year!  Also, it will consist of a standard filming style rather than “found footage”. Not that [REC] doesn’t do found footage perfectly*, but it was interesting to see an ordinary narrative used it most of [REC]3 (and it worked, though it was hard to get used to initially). Here’s the trailer, and from what you’ll see, this film has very little danger of being boring… or bloodless.

Description:

The young reporter Ángela is rescued from the building and taken to an oil tanker to be examined. However, it is unbeknown to the soldiers that she carries the seed of the mysterious demonic virus.

Release Date: 2014
Director: Jaume Balagueró
Cast: Manuela Velasco, Héctor Colomé, María Alfonsa Rosso
Genre: Horror, Drama
Country: Spain

Oh, and if you’re a fan of the series, or see found-footage horror on a regular basis, don’t miss Horror Boom’s new Found-Footage Drinking Game right here! {REC} gets brought up quite a few times as found-footage done right.

*to this day {REC} remains on our Top Ten Scariest Movies of All Time list, and that ain’t no easy task.

Racism, Sexism, and Hannibal: Eat The Rude

This interesting post by Hettienne Park (Beverly Katz on NBC’s Hannibal, whose character came to a tragic, fatal, and grisly end recently) is not only worth a read, it has also been re-blogged all over the net (well, with most people who enjoy Hannibal and have blogs, anyway) so I thought I’d just jump on the bandwagon and pass it on as well. Hettienne Park wrote the articulate, thoughtful piece on her personal blog to respond to the anger from fans that her character was killed off. These people were ANGRY at Bryan Fuller, accusing him of killing off her character because she was a female of color and therefore expendable. Read Ms. Park’s very well-written side here! The debates in the Comments section get pretty intense ..and also worth a read if you have the time (there are pages and pages).

‘American Horror Story’: Lily Rabe talks returning to ‘Coven’ as a Stevie Nicks-obsessed witch

We knew she wasn’t burned at the stake! That was one of the best (and most satisfying) cold opens in a loooong time. Lily Rabe was having a blast, too, we could tell!

‘You’re Next’: How a group of indie filmmakers produced one of 2013’s most terrifying movies

…Lionsgate has made up for delaying the film’s release by diligently, and cleverly, promoting the movie… earlier this year posters for Lionsgate offerings were emblazoned with ghostly images of the movie’s masked maniacs. “I thought that was really brilliant,” says Wingard. “Simon and I are really only established filmmakers on the independent scene and by and large our cast is relatively unknown.  So it’s an interesting way for Lionsgate to say, ‘We’ve got a lot of faith in this movie,’ and juxtaposing it with things that do have name value… They’re just trying to find ways to make it something your everyday audience member can comprehend, just like using ‘Perfect Day’ in the trailer. They spent a lot of money putting that song in the trailer. Honestly, I think that trailer cost almost as much as the film.” At the recent Comic-Con in San Diego, Lionsgate distributed replicas of the You’re Next masks and the film received an unexpected publicity boost when Michael Fassbender appeared at the panel for X-Men: Days of Future Past wearing one. “That blew my mind,” says Wingard. “I don’t know what the deal is — or if he’s just passing a hint for You’re Next 2.”  (excerpt from the article)

If Adam Wingard directed it, we might consider seeing a horror movie about a giant, skinless, suburbia-terrorizing dog named Roger… Takashi Miike could probably have lots of fun with it, too. We are, however, going to do our best at pretending we never heard the term ‘Mumblecore‘ (also referred to later in the article as ‘Mumblegore’). Just our opini… ugh.  Other than that? A great, in-depth article that delves deeply not just into the making/producing of You’re Next, but the indie filmmakers behind it, and their background, thoughtfully written by Clark Collis of Entertainment Weekly. The EW.com piece also carefully avoids spoilers. Enjoy!

[Simon] Barrett reveals they have a “cool idea” about how to turn You’re Next into a trilogy if the film makes the same impact nationally as it did at SXSW.  “A friend of mine came to see it at SXSW and had to walk out,” says  You’re Next actress Sharni Vinson. “I was completely in shock because this person is an actor themselves, so they know all the tricks of the trade and how this is obviously not real. I just thought ‘Wow, that’s awesome!’” (from the attached ew.com article)

An audience walkout (for the right reasons to a horror buff, i.e. needing to head to the lobby for a break to try to temporarily escape and calm down)? That’s a plus in our book. You’re Next opens August 23rd, and there’s plenty of chances to catch it before then (our piece here with the gallery has a ton of links) –even if you missed the pre-screenings, you can bet your ass there’ll be early showings on August 22nd. You may have much more of a hassle getting tickets and waiting in line, but you can bet the crowd reactions will be worth it, if you’re going because you love seeing a horror movie in a theater packed with like-minded fans who are not shy about expressing their enthusiasm. At Horror Boom, none of us would have an early showing–or an opening night– for a horror movie we’ve been counting the days to any other way.  It’s so fucking worth it!

‘True Blood’: Michael McMillian talks Steve Newlin’s fate, Alexander Skarsgard’s ‘inappropriate’ response

Don’t you wish we got to see the wrap party gag reels? On those overpriced (thanks, HBO) Blu-ray sets? Well, here’s some AWESOME news about a tie-in book from the EW.com interview (which we urge you to read regardless):

EW.Com: This fall, the book Steve Newlin’s Field Guide to Vampires (And Other Creatures of Satan) will be released. True Blood associate producer Gianna Sobol came up with the idea, and you helped co-write it. Tell us about it.
Michael McMillian: This was Steve Newlin’s field guide that he was putting together after the Fellowship of the Sun takeover by the vampires at the end of season 2 and before he was turned sometime in that year where Sookie was missing. So it kinda fills in the gaps during that period where Steve and Sarah were splitting up, and he was doing a lot of spying and investigating on characters in the show and learning more about the supernatural world of True Blood, and these are all of his notes. And then once he was kidnapped by the vampires, this notebook was found in his abandoned car and eventually made its way into the hands of Pam and Eric, who go through and rewrite and annotate with snarky flair all of the things that Steve got wrong. Since we started writing it before season 6 really got into production, it covers a lot of seasons 1 through 5, and then we incorporate as much of season 6 as we can. It’s kinda like a True Blood wiki in a published form through the eyes of some of the funnier characters on the show.

Hot DAMN! We’re checking for a release date the second this gets posted! Many tie-ins disappoint fans by being lazy, but it looks like this one is going to be a keeper.

The Conjuring – Ten Ways To Kill Time Until Your Showing!

(Insert some kind of “just hanging around to wait for the movie” joke of your own here; it’s probably funnier than any my sleep-deprived brain can think up).

Just a note here, it may not be the best idea to watch these after you get home from seeing the movie and you’re feeling tense and your nerves are jangled. I was feeling mellow when I made the mistake of watching…

1. ‘Vice’ and ‘The Conjuring‘ Present The 3:07 Project. Here’s the description: The devil’s hour, which takes place at 3:07 AM, is the most haunted time of the day. VICE and The Conjuring selected four directors to create short horror films inspired by that idea. Each one is distinctly twisted and scary.

Strap in for the final two– especially the final short “The Last Dive,” directed by Jason Eisener. I deeply regret watching that after dark. Jesus! My heart lurched in my chest, I felt it distinctly.

2.  Read up some cool trivia, provided by yours truly, Horror Boom. The piece also has links to others, including the Warren’s Official Site and Museum of the Occult).

3. Check out Dread Central’s piece (and ‘black carpet interviews’ with cast and crew) on the star-studded premiere. We’re jealous (again).

4.  Not enough interviews with cast and crew, you say? Check THIS out from JoBlo.com- it’s exclusive, with Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson

5. Another with Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston (ScreenSlam)

6. THIS is a great one from Screenslam – Lorraine Warren and James Wan! (Part One)

Here’s Part Two. I keep hearing nothing but good things about Lorraine Warren:

7. Here is an extremely informative piece on the true story behind The Conjuring.

8. We have some video of On-set and BTS footage. You want honesty, I didn’t watch them because I strongly suspect they could by spoiler-ish. You can check them out now or wait till after the movie–as we will–to watch. Oh, and it’s HD. WARNING, POSSIBLE SPOILERS!

aaaaand part 2.(also HD). Looks like there may be some B-roll footage, so consider this a SPOILER ALERT!

9. You can try to figure out what the fu what the hell the story is behind this B-roll shot (that ends up in the movie):

Screen shot 2013-07-19 at 5.49.25 AM

10. Poke around The Warren’s official site. It includes the Warrens Occult Museum (link here is for the FB page), with a TON of footage, reading, and discoveries (not all of them pleasant ones) to dive into!

Plus, there’s a ton of pieces here on Horror Boom you may have missed. Just type “conjuring” into the Search Box at the upper right hand corner and it’ll give you everything.

Couple reminders:

  • Don’t forget to bring your screaming voice, maybe some lozenges to soothe your throat with after the credits roll.
  • Either empty your bladder before the movie or wear Depends
  • If you have any spare Xanax lying around, you may want to bring one in the theater with you. Probably already in your tummy!

See Best Mama DVD Extra- Javier Botet, The Actor Behind Mama! Behind-The-Scenes Interviews, Creepy As Hell All-New Footage, More (Wired.com) SPOILERS!

SPOILER ALERT-if you plan on seeing Mama (2013) on DVD but have not done so yet, it’s probably best to save watching this BTS footage till after the movie. More than one commenter on the Wired post said it sort of, well, spoiled the illusion.
Many of us who have been terrified by the movie for months, on the other hand, are more than happy to see that it was  an illusion…

Well, we WISH we could take credit for any part of this, or just post it directly, but it’s a Wired.com Exclusive clip from the Javier Botet featurette on the Mama DVD/Blu-Ray. Click the big red link below for the never-before-seen footage!

Watch Jessica Chastain Kiss Mama in This Exclusive Clip/Underwire/Wired.com

SEE! Proof the CGI was mainly limited to the hair/clothes floating effect!

SEE! The only actor who could portray Mama in the feature film and give you the worst nightmares!

SEE! Javier Botet out of make-up, being interviewed, to possibly help you sleep a little better by reminding you it’s just a movie.*

Screen shot 2013-05-06 at 11.24.59 AM

Not to mention some very creepy concept art (it must be a co-incidence that one of the drawings looks like a relative of the Attic Monster/Medieros Girl from REC and REC2), Botet wandering around the set semi-casually in full makeup and costume (other than the CGI sensors/trackers wrapped around his bald head, making him look like the world’s scariest Christmas decoration), and we start to see him being swooped around on wires before the clip fades out. We do get to see over two minutes of amazing, never-before-seen footage, though. He does that horrifying, speedy crawl backwards, then they (apparently) reversed it to make it look extra creepy and unnatural.

You can watch the entire Javier Botet ‘bringing Mama to life’ (or death, as it were) featurette when the Mama DVD/Blu-Ray releases on May 7th… just in time for Mother’s Day.

New Image Gallery Of Gorgeous Jessica Chastain As Annabel In “Mama” (DVD/Blu-ray Release May 7th)

You should see our stats when it comes to “Jessica Chastain + Mama + Images” under the search terms that led readers here. Apparently there’s quite a bit of interest out there (understandably) for stills featuring her in Mama and we even got requests back in January when the movie opened. So, here’s a nice gallery of the stunning actress who plays rocker Annabel… and I hope she sings in that band her character plays in, because she has one HELL of a pair of lungs to scream with (see ‘featured’ photo above).

At at least one point in the movie– I think the scene involving Javier Botet as the soil-yourself-scary Mama showing up when quite possibly the biggest idiot in the movie decides to investigate the spooky, deserted, haunted cabin not only without electricity BUT CONTINUING WHEN HIS FLASHLIGHT DIES and all he can do to see what’s in the room is hit the flash — this here writer is pretty sure she screamed as loudly as Ms. Chastain did in the “what’s under the bed?” scene.*

If you want to see any of the images larger, just click on the shot to enlarge it. Enjoy!

We included a couple of behind-the-scenes shots, even a few from the deleted scenes that will be on the disc as extras. This is a bad week to have an entertainment budget of about $1.25…

Interested in what Annabelle’s main tattoo shows, and why the director picked it? We have a cool interview with Ms. Chastain about playing the role here. Here’s another one from Fangoria!

OK, she's kind of small in this shot. Wait, is that her or that family friend? Sorry.

OK, she’s kind of small in this shot. Wait, is that her or Dr. Dreyfuss? Sorry.

*come to think of it, I screamed pretty fucking loud at least twice during that bedroom scene. Poor Mr. Horror Boom.
