Oh, Hey, Speaking Of REC 4 Apocalypse, We Got The Teaser Trailer Right Here (MAJOR SPOILERS FOR REC AND REC2)!

Remember that recent post from Variety? Well, speak of the devil (literally, in this franchise’s case; we have below the teaser trailer for REC 4: Apocalypse for your viewing pleasure. READ THE BELOW BEFORE WATCHING, THOUGH!

Warning re: this teaser…

1. It spoils the ending of REC (which, if you haven’t seen yet, you REALLY need to. Netflix has it …and it is in out personal Top Ten Scariest Movies Ever Made list. And that list was VERY hard to trim down).

2. It spoils the ending of REC 2. (Also worth seeing, unless you hated the first one… but I doubt you’d be here if you did)

3. There’s no new footage, but it is still scary as hell.

DO NOT WATCH THE TEASER IF YOU HAVen’T SEEN REC AND REC2 AND PLAN TO! YOU WILL THANK US LATER!

Otherwise… enjoy.

More plot details to follow… but it brings things back to Angela Vidale (“IT BEGAN WITH HER. IT ENDS WITH HER.”) and takes place shortly after the events of REC2.

Trance is a dirty, messy little film. I'm not talking in terms of gore or graphic violence - although there is a surprising amount on display here. Instead, Trance feels like Danny Boyle is trying to get back in touch with his roots, the sort of stylishly shot, haphazardly structured and uncomfortably candid films from his earlier career. Boyle has, after all, gone from an underground…

"Trashy, pulpy charms," will guarantee a rental from us (and we're kind of sorry we missed it in theaters, too)! And then there were these shots from the Red Band trailer:

Scariest Short Horror Film Of The Week: 2:22

This is a great one. I’d actually recommend watching the film first (about 9 minutes long) before the ‘behind the scenes’ material. Don’t even watch the trailer, just go in clean. Here’s how to watch it. Go to the official site via link below, scroll down a little, and there’s a link to watch it on Hulu (age verification required, or I’d link directly to Hulu).

THEN check out the below link to Fangoria.com about the film (where we discovered it, thanks again, Fango):

The Newborn Dead: Terror at “2:22”.

The short film looks great for such a low budget …and there’s a nice nasty bite at the end.

New Image Gallery Of Gorgeous Jessica Chastain As Annabel In “Mama” (DVD/Blu-ray Release May 7th)

You should see our stats when it comes to “Jessica Chastain + Mama + Images” under the search terms that led readers here. Apparently there’s quite a bit of interest out there (understandably) for stills featuring her in Mama and we even got requests back in January when the movie opened. So, here’s a nice gallery of the stunning actress who plays rocker Annabel… and I hope she sings in that band her character plays in, because she has one HELL of a pair of lungs to scream with (see ‘featured’ photo above).

At at least one point in the movie– I think the scene involving Javier Botet as the soil-yourself-scary Mama showing up when quite possibly the biggest idiot in the movie decides to investigate the spooky, deserted, haunted cabin not only without electricity BUT CONTINUING WHEN HIS FLASHLIGHT DIES and all he can do to see what’s in the room is hit the flash — this here writer is pretty sure she screamed as loudly as Ms. Chastain did in the “what’s under the bed?” scene.*

If you want to see any of the images larger, just click on the shot to enlarge it. Enjoy!

We included a couple of behind-the-scenes shots, even a few from the deleted scenes that will be on the disc as extras. This is a bad week to have an entertainment budget of about $1.25…

Interested in what Annabelle’s main tattoo shows, and why the director picked it? We have a cool interview with Ms. Chastain about playing the role here. Here’s another one from Fangoria!

OK, she's kind of small in this shot. Wait, is that her or that family friend? Sorry.

OK, she’s kind of small in this shot. Wait, is that her or Dr. Dreyfuss? Sorry.

*come to think of it, I screamed pretty fucking loud at least twice during that bedroom scene. Poor Mr. Horror Boom.

V/H/S/2 (Formerly S-VHS) – Tribeca Film Festival Interview With Simon Barrett (Complex)

If you’ve been psyched about the V/H/S sequel (titled, well…guess what) since you read the reviews raving about the Gareth Evans-helmed “Safe Haven”, you’re not alone. Click on the big red link below to read a great interview with more details on the sequel, which will first be released on VOD/streaming June 6th, then in (select) theaters June 12th.

Tribeca Film Festival Interview: “V/H/S/2,” Simon Barrett | Complex.

Dread Central gave it 5/5 bloody stabby-knives (review link here). We read a TON of reviews from them, and even the most enthusiastic, rave reviews don’t make it over 4/5 stabby-knives.  Example: both Stoker and The Evil Dead (2013) blew the reviewer’s goddamned minds and elicited nothing but praise, yet still failed to get rated higher than 4/5 knifes.  The posts from readers that follow range from sarcastically dubious to irate, but we’re keeping open minds.

We're guessing this still is from Safe Haven...

Check Out The Insane, Must-See “Frankenstein’s Army” (2013) Clip and Trailer!

OOooooooo, this looks like a fun one! Unfortunately, the only official site we can find is the Facebook page for Frankenstein’s Army, and it looks like it’s making the rounds of the festival circuit right now. Well, it could be fortunate for YOU, since you might live within reasonable travelling distance of an upcoming screening.*

Official synopsis:

Toward the end of World War II, Russian soldiers pushing into eastern Germany stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and begun experimenting with the journal of one Dr. Victor Frankenstein. The scientists have used the legendary Frankenstein’s work to assemble an army of super-soldiers stitched together from the body parts of their fallen comrades — a desperate Hitler’s last ghastly ploy to escape defeat.

Dread Central loved it; you can read their review (written by Drew Tinnen) by clicking here.  Also there’s this: Complex Magazine ranks Frankenstein’s Army Movie 6 in their 15 Most Anticipated Movies at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival.

Check out the new poster for horror anthology sequel 'V/H/S/2' -- EXCLUSIVE

Reblogged from Inside Movies:

It seems like only last year that the original V/H/S marauded its way into cinemas -- maybe because it was. But the busy beavers behind that found footage horror anthology have already readied a sequel, the Sundance-screened V/H/S/2.

The Lords of Salem Review – UK DVD Version (Dread Central)

Well, this is unfortunate. We’ll give you our two cents after the Dread Central review.

Click on the big red link below to check out what they had to say. Hint: it probably won’t make you run out and see/rent the movie.

Lords of Salem, The (UK DVD) Review – Dread Central.

Disclaimer :we haven’t seen The Lords of Salem, but have read many, many reviews similar to this-and have seen everything else Zombie has made, even The Haunted World of El Superbeasto. We almost bought a copy of The Devil’s Rejects–and the original House of 1000 Corpses screenplay, which Zombie should have stuck with*. We’re considering checking out Rob Zombie’s tie-in novel of The Lords of Salem, ( written with B.K.Evenson), or at least an e-book sample.

Screen shot 2013-04-14 at 7.18.04 AM

Pretty sure this was one of the drawings of production art included in the screenplay for House of 1000 Corpses we have– rented the movie for that alone.

At this point, anyway, Zombie doesn’t have the skills needed to write and direct a satisfying genre movie.  He’s got potential, and a great eye for detail. He needs a collaborator to tell him when to stop, to cut something out, and tell him when an entire act needs a rewrite. Writing likeable characters would be nice, too. Other reviewers and fans besides me have stated they’re getting tired of watching horrible white trash families, usually with drug or alcohol problems, scream at each other (and we’re not talking about The Devil’s Rejects, that family got along fine, within itself, they just were vicious and sadistic to innocent victims). He clearly has the drive, and his heart’s in the right place. His directing is fine, his premises are usually great, but his screenplays need help. Unfortunately, he’s going to needs to figure this out on his own (I can’t see Rob Zombie co-operating with some intervention). We just hope he never gives up before he does find a good partner or collaborator.

We're usually happy to cut Zombie slack simply for coming up with THIS.

The Lords of Salem theatrical release date is April 19th, 2013; not sure if it’s limited or they’re going the Halloween/Halloween 2 route and doing a wide release.

*the coolest thing in the copy of the screenplay we have are half a dozen drawings by Zombie of the sets, plus some really awesome production art — there’s a REALLY cool one of the gas station/fried chicken-joint/sideshow/haunted thrill-ride Sid Haig‘s character runs.  Actually, that place was the coolest thing in the movie, too.

Film Review: 'Cheap Thrills'

Reblogged from Variety:

“Cheap Thrills” is a thoroughly nasty piece of work, which doubtless will be the strongest selling point for this worst-case scenario about steadily escalating dares and degradations. Playing like the mutant offspring of Harold Pinter and Quentin Tarantino, yet fueled by its own distinctive strain of darkly comic misanthropy, helmer E.L. Katz’s debut feature was voted audience fave among midnight pics at SXSW, indicating its potential appeal with extreme-taste auds.
